The Cavendish Road was a tank path built by Indian and New Zeadand ingeniers in about 10 days to facilitate an attack on Monte Cassino. It was built from Caira village (few Kilometres from Cassino town) to Phantom and Snakeshead ridge. It was so large that on 19th March 1944, 37 kiwi tanks (New Zealand Armoured Division) were able to arrive to the rear of the monastery. The intention was to launch  the attack to the abbey but because of the tanks were not accompanied by any Infantry, the German 4th Parachute Regiment was able to disable the first 10 tanks near the medieval Albaneta Farm and the other ware forcad to retret. The same road was used by Polish Corps on 12th May 1944. Today it is possible to explore it and to reach Montecassino as the New Zealanders did in the past.

La Cavendish Road era un percorso per Carriarmari construito dagli ingegneri Indiali e Neozelandesi in appena 10 giorni per facilitare l'attacco a Montecassino. Fu costruito tra il villaggio di Caira (a pochi chilometri da Cassino) fino alla Cresta del Fantasma e della Testa di Serpente. Era così larga che il 19 Marzo 1944 37 carriarmati Neozelandesi riuscirono ad arrivare fino ai pressi del monastero. L'idea era di lanciare un attacco all'Abbazia ma poichè i carriarmati non erabo supportati dalla Fanteria, Il 4 Reggimento Tedesco Paracadutisti riuscì a renndere inutilizzabili i primi 10 carri vicino la fattoria Albaneta, e gli altri furono costretti a ritirarsi. La stessa strada fu utilizzata dal 2 Corpo Polacco il 12 Maggio 1944. Oggi è possibile esplorare questa strada e raggiungere Montecassino proprio come fecero i Neozelandesi.
